Professor Neil Armstrong

Picture of Professor Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong is Professor of Paediatric Physiology and Director of the Children's Health and Exercise Research Centre. He is past chair of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) and a former president of the Physical Education Association of the United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, the Royal Society of Health, the American College of Sports Medicine, the European College of Sport Sciences, the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education, the Physical Education Association and the Institute of Biology. He is an Honorary Fellow of BASES. Neil chaired the Sport Sciences Panel in both the 1992 and 1996 HEFCE Research Assessment Exercises.

Neil's research interests are focused in paediatric exercise science and he has authored 8 books and over 500 other academic publications and authored over 480 presentations on the topic to conferences all over the world. As a sports administrator he served two terms as the Minister of Sport's nominee as Vice-Chair of the South West Regional Council for Sport and Recreation and Chair of South West Sport.

Neil is a former youth international and professional soccer player who remains a dedicated supporter of Newcastle Utd despite the fact that they have not won a domestic trophy for 50 years.
