Seas, Seamen and Shipping
A one-day conference, at the SS Great Britain
4th June, 2011
10.00 am - 5.00 pm

This Centre for Maritime Historical Studies at the University of Exeter was the of its kind in a British university. The Centre aims to promote research into economic, social, political, naval and environmental aspects of the British maritime past, from the earliest time to the present day, drawing on European and international experience. The 'Seas, Seamen and Shipping' conference will showcase the latest research from members and associates of the Centres. The conference will provide an opportunity not only to hear cutting edge research papers from the University of Exeter, but also to hear about the work of the Brunel Institute at the SS Great Britain, to see their recently opened library and research facilities and to admire this iconic ship.
