Job OpportunitiesThe Centre for Medical History wishes to recruit three Associate Research Fellows to support the work of Professor Jonathan Barry on the Wellcome Trust funded project ‘The medical world of early modern England, Wales and Ireland, c.1500 – 1715’. This project will develop a groundbreaking database with biographies of all medical practitioners active in England, Wales and Ireland c.1500-1715, which will then be used to produce the first all-round study of the nature and impact of medical practice in early modern Britain, to be published as a major monograph by a leading university press. Associate Research Fellow (Latin) Associate Research Fellow (Welsh) Successful candidates will assist Professor Barry with the intellectual and practical development of the project and will be working on archival sources to identify medical practitioners active in the period and collate this evidence to develop an online database of medical biographies, enabling prosopographical analysis of the changing levels of supply and demand for medical services and the varying roles played by practitioners in their communities. He/she will also be responsible for bibliographical linkages between the database and online catalogues of printed books by the practitioners. He/she will be expected to travel regularly, as well as forming part of the research team within the Centre for Medical History in Exeter.
