Postgraduate Workshop in Ethno-Politics29 January 2010 On 29 January, EXCEPS hosted a postgraduate workshop in ethno-politics, co-organised by Dr Annemarie Peen Rodt and Christine Difato with introductory remarks by Professor Tim Dunne (Head of School, HuSS) and Professor Gareth Stansfield (Director, IAIS and EXCEPS). The workshop aimed to stimulate constructive and informal discussion of research across a wide variety of themes, broadly defined as ethno-politics. Presenters included: Timor Sharan, Ozker Kocadal, and Siim Trumm from the Department of Politics; Anaid Flesken, Marjetka Pezdirc, and Paul Griffiths from EXCEPS; Gareth Curless from the Department of History; Sascha Klement from the Department of English; Phil Leech from the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies; and Dilshad Khdhir from the School of Politics & International Relations at the University of Nottingham. Topics ranged from the exploration of cross-cultural contact zones to European Union voting choices, and methodological approaches brought together the theoretical foundations and practical challenges of research. The workshop benefited from the attendance and comments from EXCEPS staff members, particularly Mary-Alice Clancy and Klejda Mulaj. EXCEPS aims to build on the success of the workshop to form a network of collaboration and discussion in ethno-political studies at the postgraduate level.
