Settlement and Environment in AnatoliaThis interdisciplinary project, involving collaboration with Ankara and Hacettepe Universities, the British Institute at Ankara, and Birmingham University, will study the impact of climate, land-use, population and settlement history in SW Turkey from the earliest historical periods to the present day. Climate change and other environmental issues are critically important in today’s Turkey, and we plan to develop this programme into a major study of these issues for modern Mediterranean Turkey. Research Director Prof Stephen MitchellStephen Mitchell is a historian and archaeologist, who has been active in Turkey since 1970, and has been Professor of Ancient History at Exeter since 2002. He is the author of a two-volume historical study of Turkey in antiquity: Anatolia.
